Japanese Pulse Taking

Japanese believe that when the pulses are balanced, the body can heal itself. The body is an energetic field manifesting physical symptoms as a result of how the energy moves. In Japanese medicine, the focus is not on what the body does as much as how the body is doing it. Pulse reading provides a direct view into the underlying energetic patterns behind the symptoms the body has produced. The entire treatment plan is developed around the results of the pulse taking. Based on the pulse, a root treatment of the symptomatic organ system performed.

The practitioner places their fingers over the patient’s radial artery on both wrists. The index finger of the left hand is the first position of the patient’s right wrist and it represents the Lung/large intestine organ system.  The middle finger is in the second position and represents the Spleen/Stomach organ system.  The ring finger is in the third position and represents the Pericardium/ Triple Warmer organ systems.  The index finger of the right hand is the first position of the patient’s left wrist and that represents the Heart/Small intestine organ systems. The middle finger in the second position and represents the Liver/Gall Bladder organ systems. The ring finger is in the third position and represents the Kidney/bladder systems.

Pulse taking is also an effective means of monitoring how the body responds to treatment. When seeking treatment, patients respond favorably as their pulses are balancing out. Responding to and correcting the excess and deficiency found in the pulses, we can positively influence the body’s ability to take care of itself.
